PAEDIATRIC FEET ASSESSMENT
儿童足部检验

Child walking barefoot on a treadmill for gait assessment, supervised by a pediatric specialist capturing video analysis

What Is Paediatric Feet Assessment?

Paediatric feet assessment is a specialised evaluation conducted by podiatrists to examine the health, alignment, and function of children’s feet and lower limbs. It identifies potential issues such as gait abnormalities, developmental delays, or foot conditions that may impact mobility, comfort, or overall growth.

Why Is Paediatric Feet Assessment Important?

A child’s feet are highly adaptable during early development, making it essential to address any abnormalities promptly. Early detection and intervention prevent potential complications like misalignments, gait issues, and chronic pain, ensuring healthy growth and mobility as your child matures.

What Does Paediatric Feet Assessment Involve?

Our comprehensive assessment includes:

  • Limb length measurements.
  • Joint and muscle strength evaluations.
  • Non-weight-bearing and weight-bearing assessments.
  • Visual and video gait analysis.
  • Walking and/or running gait analysis.
  • Assessment of activity-specific movements.
  • Developmental milestone evaluations.

Common Paediatric Foot Conditions

  • Gait Abnormalities: In-toeing, out-toeing, and flat feet.
  • Sports Injuries: Stress fractures, shin splints, and Sever’s Disease.
  • Congenital Conditions: Clubfoot, metatarsus adductus, and bowlegs.
  • Nail and Skin Issues: Ingrown toenails, plantar warts, and blisters.
  • Other Concerns: Achilles tendonitis, knock knees, and high-arched feet.

When Should a Child See a Podiatrist?

Bring your child for an assessment if:

  • They frequently complain of pain or discomfort during walking or play.
  • They trip or fall often.
  • They avoid physical activities or ask to be carried frequently.
  • You notice visible gait abnormalities, like in-toeing or out-toeing.
  • There is a family history of foot conditions or delays in developmental milestones.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should my child see a podiatrist?

Children can be assessed as early as 12-18 months when they begin walking independently.

How do I know if my child’s condition is serious?

Watch for signs like frequent tripping, walking discomfort, or visible abnormalities. A podiatrist can provide a detailed evaluation.

Do all children with flat feet need treatment?

Not all cases require intervention, but severe conditions or pain may need insoles or other corrective measures.

Are custom insoles expensive?

We focus on cost-effective solutions, recommending off-the-shelf insoles when suitable. Custom insoles are only prescribed for severe cases requiring specific corrections.
