Esther Tan graduated with a Diploma in Physiotherapy from Nanyang Polytechnic in 2012 and subsequently attained a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University in 2015. She then went on to complete Master in Clinical Physiotherapy (Manipulative Therapy) from Curtin University in 2018. Her interest in physiotherapy rose from her sporting days in school and the number of overuse injuries surrounding sports, while her passion for physiotherapy matured into her belief of a dynamic and physical approach to treating musculoskeletal injuries.
Esther worked in Changi General Hospital (CGH) for 3 years, exposing herself to the areas of musculoskeletal injuries treatment, chronic pain management, sports injuries rehabilitation, post-operative care, geriatric and hydrotherapy rehabilitation. She was involved in several research projects on post-operative hip fractures and total knee replacements, winning several in-house quality improvement projects awards along the way. Esther also undertook the role of Clinical Educator to physiotherapy students and deputy team leader of the Orthopaedics team when she was in CGH. A move was made to further develop her knowledge and skills in treating musculoskeletal conditions when she worked in a private practice for 2 years, where she treated a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, which piqued her interest in chronic pain, and subsequently driving her to attain her Master’s degree specialising in musculoskeletal conditions.
Esther was a competitive sprinter for 13 years and she still involves herself in a variety of sports. This has allowed her to develop a keen understanding towards the needs and demands of different sports. She is also an avid traveller who seeks to explore the world and its different cultures, giving her the ability to recognise the approaches that different cultures require. She believes in providing the best quality of care and outcomes through an individual-centred approach, effective management through sound clinical reasoning, and building a good rapport between client and therapist.
Esther practices at Kovan.
